I was getting ready to take Adison to bed tonight when she looked up at me and had this sweet little conversation with me.

Adi - We're going to go to heaven to sing Happy Birthday to baby Jesus.
Me - Really, that's nice.
Adi - Is it warm or cold in heaven?
Me - The weather is perfect in heaven.
Adi - When are we going to go to heaven?
Me - When Jesus calls us there.
Adi - I'm going to call him and tell him when we're coming, where's my purple phone?

I look forward to many more conversations like this. I love it that our two year old is already talking about the Lord (in her own two year old way).

They get big so fast!

I honestly can't believe how quickly Abram is changing. He is rolling all over the place, becoming more and more interactive, and is showing very early signs of an eagerness to crawl. I have to admit being a new mom with Adi was hard. I was nervous and felt like I was doing everything wrong. The second time around has been a totally different experience. I am so much more relaxed, and while I have my moments throughout the day, I really am taking much more time to stop and listen, play, and love on my kiddos. Here are a couple pictures of this sweet, growing little guy.

We got a car lover already (this made Bran pretty excited when he came out in the living room yesterday). Adi wasn't so nuts about him playing with her cars.

Mornings

It has been pretty cold and nasty here lately. I really am not a big fan of winter! We are pretty lazy in the mornings around here. We eat a leisurely breakfast, lounge in our pj's, and basically take a while to get moving. When I take off Abe's pj's he squeals in delight. My kids just love being naked. I can't help but take pictures of this sweet little thing!

Adi has been more and more interested in her letters. I am working with her little-by-little. She can recognize A, C, D, and O. I know this is just a crazy mom thing to do, but here a little picture of all her "O's". I was pretty impressed, but I'm pretty sure I'm probably alone here. She has always had a love for the letter "O" check out this post back here.

Adi's first movie!

Yesterday I took Adison to see her first movie. We saw Beauty and the Beast in 3D. She was so excited to go to the movie with her good friend Olivia. I think she was even more excited that we went to get candy for the movie first. She was squealing and yelling going to the movies, going to the movies. I love how spunky that little thing is! We almost made it through the entire movie. We left about 15 minutes shy of the end because it was time for Abe to eat and she was getting VERY antsy anyway. I can't believe what a big girl she is becoming. This is totally unrelated, but she went to bed tonight without a diaper. She has been waking every night once or twice to go potty. She is definitely ready to go through the night without a diaper. Movie theater for the first time, completely potty trained, our little girl is growing up so fast.

Abram is 4 months

Height - 25.5 inches (69th percentile)
Weight - 14 lbs 4 oz (33rd percentile) - if he is in the 33rd I can't imagine what a baby in the 99th looks like!

Sleep - I am laying him down about 7:30 or 8:00pm in his crib for bed. He stays swaddled up until about 12:30am for his first night feeding. Then I am up every 3 hours until the morning. Except for the last few weeks, it has been more like ever 2 hours. The accomplishment this month is that he is out of the swing and I have packed up the swing. Abe is just getting a little too big for it and it's best to take it away all together in my book. Me and my kids seem to have a bit of an addiction when it comes to the swing. :)

Eating - This boy is a good little eater. He has really become a pretty fast nurser and still gladly takes a bottle when I give him one (maybe once a month). I honestly think he would take straight formula if I needed him to. He doesn't seem to mind what it is - he just likes to eat. I am nursing him about every 3 hours on average.

Milestone - Just in the last two days he has started to bring his feet up to his face and tip side to side. I think he might be starting to be a little more interested in trying to roll over. He is such a happy little baby and now has the most amazingly adorable little belly laugh. I haven't caught it on video yet but I am trying. I'll post a video if I can get one. He also had his first over night trip to Nashville this month. He slept great there and was an excellent little traveler. My heart just melts when those sweet (blue I think) eyes look up at me and give me his terrific little smile. You're so much fun Abram and we just love you to pieces!!!

It was hard to get a picture without his hands in his mouth or a massive amount of drool on the shirt. I can't wait for those teeth to pop through!

I pulled out the pumperoo today - HE LOVES IT (and so do I :)

He's been a bit crabier then normal during the other day and I couldn't get him to sleep. He finally fell asleep on me, so I gently laid him in the chair and brought veggies out into the living room to cut for dinner. You gotta do what you gotta do some of the time. I know this isn't very safe, but I was sitting right there.

Random

We have spent this week getting back into the groove. Having Brandon at home with us was beyond wonderful. We have had some unusually nice weather which makes me oh so happy. Here are some random pictures from the last week or so...

I miss the AZ sunsets so so so much. I looked out the window the other night when we were eating dinner and thought the sky looked beautiful. I had to go snap a quick pic of God's beautifully painted sky.

Since the weather has been pretty nice we have bundled Adi up a few times and let her go outside and play. That girl really does love her little four wheeler!

Can we say fort building. Brandon has built a SERIOUS fort with Adi a couple of the nights. I LOVED building forts as a little girl, but we rarely flipped over all the living room furniture to make one.

Who needs a pet cat when you can play with one through the window every night. Adi has dubbed our cat Peaka-paw. This little cat comes every night before dinner and plays with us through Abram's window. Peaka-paw ever was lucky enough to get serenaded this particular evening with Adi's new microphone.

I love nothing more then staying home with our two amazing kids. I feel so lucky to be such an active part of their growing up!!!

New Years Eve 2011

We ended our year with great friends. It was a fun night for the kids and adults. The kids had a great time playing together and us adults played games and ate good food. 2011 was a great year and I am really looking forward to what God has in store for us all in 2012. Happy New Year!

Adi had a great time on Ben and Olivia's new "roller coaster". She was a bit skiddish after Brandon and Nate rigged it to go a little faster. (I'm hoping to upload a video too)

Exactly a year ago today we found out this sweet little guy was on the way! It's amazing how much better your life can get in one short year. We sure love our sweet and happy little Abram!

ICE - Nashville 2011

We went down to Nashville for a couple days to see the Ice spectacular at Opryland. We had such a great time with our good friends Nate and Lindsey and their kids. Opryland was just beautiful this time of year. The kids had a great time playing together. Lindsey and I were able to enjoy a massage this morning while the daddy's took the kids. We were also lucky enough to meet an old friend for lunch. My childhood babysitter and her daughter, Riley, met us for lunch at Noshville. It was a quick trip, but a fun one indeed!

Morgan Christmas Party

We went to Matt's parents Christmas party on Monday and had a wonderful time. Adi was a bit over dressed, but she had to wear her Christmas dress since we didn't make it to church the day before. We just love Matt's parents and feel so blessed they always make us feel so at home.

This was by far the best Christmas of our lives. I'm pretty sure Brandon said to me that he was having the best day/Christmas ever about four times. The great thing was we did nothing but stay home all day and play with toys, read books, and watch movies. I was pretty bummed we missed church. Abram got sick again - shocking right. He had a pretty high fever Friday afternoon and I had a hard time getting it to break. Saturday night was a rough one for both Bran and myself. It was clear Christmas morning that he needed to stay home another day. The fever finally broke and even he (Abram) enjoyed the day.
Adi had such a great time playing with her toys and reading books. I'm so happy she has such a great love for books! I was able to get my Mexican Christmas dinner made and it was pretty darn delicious. I think we might have a new tradition on our hands. The day was wonderful from start to finish. (No pictures of Abe - he made a very late appearance)

Christmas Eve 2011

Tonight was a magical little night for Ms. Adison. Our elf, Nick-nack, dropped off a note and Christmas pj's for the kids. She thought it was just amazing. The magic and excitement of Christmas is amazing to experience through your little one's eyes. We sure have spent a lot of time talking about the reason for the season and the best gift anyone could ever be given, Jesus. But, the magic of Santa will be a part of our family tradition. Speaking of tradition, we all opened one gift Christmas eve night. We read a bunch of Christmas books and it was off to bed.

Oh my goodness we have had such a great week with Brandon home. We really haven't done anything too exciting but just getting to spend time together has been wonderful. We are so excited for Christmas and really being reminded what Christmas is all about. How lucky we all are that God gave His only son so that we too may live! We hope you all have a very blessed Christmas.

Paper Dolls

I found some free print outs for paper dolls today and was so excited to print and cut them out for Adi to play with. I distinctly remember a historical figures paper doll set that I had, and loved. I think she might be a bit young for them, but they held her interested for a little while.

Haubstadt Tree Lighting 2011

Tonight was Haubstadt's 2nd annual golf cart parade and Christmas tree lighting! We decided that we were for sure going at the last minute, so our cart was simply lit with twinkling lights (thanks mom). I think we might prep the cart ahead of time next year. A lot of people really went all out and there were some great looking carts. We had Adi and Abe all bundled up but we took a short cut to the tree and waited in the old gym where it was nice and warm. I just love this time of year. Family, friends, and Christmas lights. Our little town's Christmas tree looked beautiful!

WARNING: This post is for all those nursing mamas out there.

I normally wouldn't post about something like this, but after getting mastitis for the fourth time in under three months I thought I would post some info. I'll just start by saying the older I get the more I am a HUGE believer in natural remedies for the body. I understand that there are some things that require antibiotics, but if you can avoid them even better.
I had my first bout of mastitis when was Abe was four weeks old. The sickness and pain that is associated with this is crazy. A couple weeks later I got in on the left side again. They treated it again with a very strong antibiotic and let me tell you by this point my body was telling me enough is enough. I have never felt so bad in all my life. I immediately stopped taking the antibiotic when I finally figured out that is why I was feeling so awful. Things weren't too bad for a couple weeks until it came back for the third time on the right side. They put me on another antibiotic that wasn't nearly as strong hoping it would take care of the problem. In my head I thought, it is an infection and the only thing that is going to knock it is medicine. Well, while currently taking the third round of antibiotics it jumped to my left side. Yesterday, I said enough is enough. While skyping with Brandon he began to research some natural ways to take care of the problem.
I can't say enough good things about kellymom.com. I have used this site so much during nursing. The information and advice I find on here always seems to help. Brandon said I needed to go to the store and get some Lecithin. Lecithin decreases the viscosity (stickiness) of the milk by increasing the percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the milk. So basically the Lecithin is an emulsifier that is used to keep fats/oils dispersed and in suspension in foods. I took 4800mg last night (I was desperate) and shockingly I felt better this morning. I did see my doctor this morning and it sounds like I have a resistant strand of mastitis. They are culturing my milk to find out what is going on exactly, but the Lecithin seems to be working. Thank you Bran for always coming up with homeopathic remedies that really do always seem to work!

Abram is 3 months!

Where is the time going? I can't even believe he is already 3 months old. I am thoroughly enjoying my sweet little baby. I am so happy that I am much calmer and confident this time around. God blesses us with the most amazing and miraculous gift that could ever be given and the only way to respond is to be truly thankful!

Sleep - This "little" guy is still sleeping in his swing! Ha, in the past I would be freaking out. Now, I figure I'll get him out of there pretty soon. He is basically almost too big to be in there. So, when Brandon gets back from Japan I will transition him into the crib. It really shouldn't be too bad. I'm up three times a night still anyway. It is kind of funny, I should be pretty sleepy throughout the day, but most days I do just fine. I think it is more of a mind set thing with your second. I don't have the choice to nap with a spunky little two and half year old running around, so I think you more easily make do on very little sleep. He is sporadically napping in the bouncer, car seat, or crib during the day. He is awake most of the day and only naps maybe two to three hours during the day. I'm not worried at all about the sleep. I know that within the next few months his sleep will be more routine (and he'll be old enough for me to allow him to cry it out a bit more).

Eating - Abram is a great little eater and growing like a champ. He eats every two to three hours during the day and goes a good five hours stretch at bed time. He is going to sleep at 7:00 and absolutely can not stay up any longer. It seems like most babies his age stay up later, but I just can't seem to get him to do that. If I could I would get a longer stretch of sleep for myself but oh well, that will come. Aside from my crazy four bouts of Mastitis (read the post above for more details on that craziness) my man is a champion eater.

Milestones - He is talking a lot more this month. I just can't get enough of all the little oohs, goos, and squeals. This isn't really a milestone but it just stinkin amazes me that he is wearing 6-9 month clothes. I guess I am comparing him to Adison - big difference. He had his first trip to urgent care. When we all got sick his temp spiked a bit for someone his age. They thought he might have RSV, but after a quick swab that was ruled out.

sick and tired...

Literally - we've all been sick for a week now and honestly, I am a little tired! I'll just start by saying a huge THANK YOU to my parents for helping me out this weekend. I had big plans for us to go to Santa Claus, Indiana for Christmas festivities, Christmas shopping, going out to eat, and our towns Christmas tree lighting and parade. Instead, we read books, did puzzles, ordered out, and watched it rain all weekend (therefore, no tree lighting or parade).

The winter is a hard time of year. It just seems like everyone is getting sick, and our time we used to always spend outside has come to an end. I am beyond excited for Brandon to get home from Japan on Saturday. I think that having two sick kids wouldn't be so terribly bad, but me being sick on top of it makes it pretty tough (I don't even have enough space to list all my ailments these days :)

My parents were also kind enough to go out and rip out my garden for me before the rain began. I have been thinking that it is just going to be way to overwhelming to start seeds in the garage next month and start thinking about my spring/summer crop but NO. I am doing it. I think the work will be good for me, and it is very rewarding watch those little sprouts become a plentiful harvest later in the year. Just writing about it makes me excited to go out there and get my hands dirty!!!

Well, needless to say our week has been pretty uneventful, but here are some pictures (finally) for you Brandon. We miss and love you. I can't wait to see you Saturday!!!!!

WHY do kids put things up their nose?

A button up the nose - that's right Adi shoved a button up her nose and almost gave her mother a heart attack. I put her down for her nap, and after about 5 minutes she was crying a little bit and fussing. I forgot to give her a sip of water, so I figured I would just run in there quick and give her her drink so she could fall asleep. When I got in there she became hysterical and said, "button in my nose." I flipped the light on and could see the little button way up there. I tried with my finger and couldn't get it out. A quick call to Lindsey - and she was over in minutes (THANK YOU). I was afraid she was going to suck it up there even further. As Lindsey was walking in the door I finally just laid her down and went at it with a tweezers. After a little digging it was out. She was pretty shook up, but all is well. Brandon hasn't even been gone 24 hours and the chaos has already begun. Needless to say, Adi won't be playing with buttons anymore. These crazy kids just can't resist sticking them in there nose, mouth, and wherever else. :)

I thank You for my lived-in yard—my kids have space to play.

There’s so much work I must get done. I do it all, and then

But Lord, I thank You for the time that I can’t call my own,

in our living room. Adi has been talking about going to the beach. It's the cutest little thing she packs up one of her play diaper bags and says, "bye mom, I'm going swimming." She was adamant that she needed to put her swim suit on today. So, it was a beach party in the living room! I love that she has such a great imagination!

Early Christmas Gift

Adi got her "big" Christmas gift early - in the hopes of using it before it gets crazy cold. Brandon convinced me that she is still to young to understand a big gift versus all the little ones. We've been so busy and sick that she hasn't gotten to ride it all that much. I think this is going to be a huge hit come spring.

2 Months Old Today!

2 month stats:

Height - 23.5 inches (71st percentile)
Weight - 12 lbs 10 oz (75th percentile)

Sleep - I am laying him down about 7:00pm in his crib for bed. He stays swaddled up until about 12:30am for his first night feeding. Then I am up every 3 hours until the morning. After his 7:00 - 12:30 stretch he is sleeping in the swing (not being swung). He is doing pretty well if you ask me. Would I love it if he was going a 7-8 hour stretch - YES. But, at the same time I know this time goes so quickly so I am really trying to cherish those sweet moments in the middle of the night with just the two of us in his rocking chair!

Eating - He basically eats every two hours during the day and you can see above what he is doing through the night. I have had a lot of trouble this time with mastitis. I actually have it right now for the second time. It makes you VERY sick and seems like it is a bit of a difficult thing to really kick. I am hoping this is my last bout of it. I never had it at all with Adison, so it seems a bit strange that I am having so much trouble.

Milestone - He is really starting to coo. I just love it when they start making all those sweet little noises. He is also kicking up a storm. It won't be too long before he is rolling over.

Camping

We really wanted to try one overnight camping trip before it gets too cold, but with Abe's congestion problems at night we decided against it. Brandon decided he would set up the pop-up in the driveway and take Adi camping anyway. Let me tell you how excited this little girl has been for her camping trip. She even told the guy at the hardware store a couple days ago that she was going camping with her daddy!!! I was pretty sure she wouldn't make it much past 10 o'clock, but I knew they would have a blast. Brandon walked in the front door at about 9:30 with her last night. I think they both had a great time.

We talked about why you go fishing when you camp. I told her it was to eat them for dinner. She was pretty adamant that she eat some fish. This was as close as she got to the real thing.

Even though I had planned a couple little activities for them to do while in the camper, jumping on the beds was by far her favorite!

We hope to share a lot of special memories in here in the near future. I'm hoping for some great camping trips come Spring!

Trick-or-Treating

We had a great time going trick-or-treating in town tonight. Our cute little town closed the streets and the business' and town hall gave out candy. There were a lot of people there and it was just a great event. We will definitely be doing this again next year!

I've been pretty sure that Abram has been purposefully smiling for the last week or so, but I've been waiting to post before I was sure. He is such a sweet and happy baby. He seems to smile an awful lot on the changing table. What more could a baby ask for a, a full tummy and and dry diaper! These sweet little smiles just melt my heart!!!

My WONDERFUL husband surprised me with a half day and beautiful flowers. I am so blessed to have such a thoughtful and loving husband.

Also, both kids napped at the same time. :) I think we have another tummy sleeper (so happy I have discovered this before he was 4 months old).

Getting into a "new" groove

Here at the Haight home we are finally ready to try to get into a bit of a routine and start figuring things out with the four of us. Grammy left on Tuesday - THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all your help while you were here. Brandon got back from Japan this past weekend and I finally feel like we can start getting into a bit of a "new" routine. Things are definitely a bit crazier with two little ones. Brandon spent an hour getting Adi down last night, while I tried getting Mr. Abe calmed down. After a couple hours of chaos last night Brandon and I were able to spend about 45 minutes alone just trying to relax a bit. These times are exhausting, but wonderfully amazing at the same time. We can't even put into words how blessed we feel to have two healthy and beautiful children! These two little ones are so much fun!!! Here is a bit of our week!

Brandon was so excited to be home and tried to soak up every minute this weekend playing with Adi and holding Abe. The jet lag snuck in every once in awhile. Adi didn't seems to mind, she just kept playing even when he couldn't keep is eyes open any longer.

So, I thought it would be fun if we carved Adi's pumpkin with daddy. I should have known that my little darling that needs a napkin with her fruit snack wouldn't come close to touching the guts of the pumpkin. We tried to get her to help, but needless to say, daddy did all the carving and gutting.

She was a great little director though!

I can't believe our sweet little Abram is one month old today. He is such a good little guy. The nursing is going great. This man is quite the eater!!! I am feeding him every two hours during the day and between 6-8 he would eat every 30 minutes if I let him. I am trying to pump out my excess in the morning for his "hungry" time, but if I find that I can't keep up we might have to start supplementing him with formula before bed. Another thing I will mention is his ability to poop (a lot). I don't think I knew that babies could poop as much as this little guy does. It is virtually impossible to keep him in a clean diaper. He has such a calm and sweet demeanor. He loves to snuggle, and for the most part really seems to just go with the flow.

Sleep - Abram is such a good little sleeper (Praise God)! I am waking up twice through the night and he typically does a great job eating and getting snuggled up to go back to sleep pretty quickly. He is sleeping in the "pink bassinet thing". My friend Kim gave me this to use and he wasn't real fond of it at the beginning, but he is liking it now. Two nights ago he went all night without being in the swing. I decided I needed to nip that in the bud early on so he didn't get used to swinging all night. I am hoping like Kim's baby; that he transitions pretty easily from the bassinet thing to the crib in the next month or so. He is still so congested through the night that I want to keep him propped up until this goes away. I thought he got a bit of a viral thing two weeks ago, but he is still snotty and his eyes are a bit watery, so I am thinking this little man might have a bit of allergies. The farmers are all cutting the corn right now and I am pretty itchy as well. We'll see how he is doing in the next month or so.

Milestone - He is doing a great job following toys and voices. He is lifting is head for a short period of time when on his tummy. He is just starting to make some different noises other then crying. I think the cooing will be starting very soon.

We had a great fall day at the pumpkin patch this morning. Grandma and Grandpa took Adi on a hay ride and played all kinds of little games with her while Abe and I snuggled inside. Adi did a great job picking out her and Abe's pumpkin. We also bought some yummy baked goods, local apples, and pears. The mums were beautiful and I bought two big yellow ones to plant next to the mail box. Hope you're all enjoying this fall weather (sorry AZ folks - hope it cools off for you soon).

She comes out and says the choo-chee train is loud. I decided I am going to try and ignore her talk about he choo-chee train all together and hope she gets back on her 7:30 routine very soon. Abe, on the other hand, is a GREAT little sleeper! Thank you Lord for a good sleeper here at the beginning anyway!!!

This picture says it all! This little guy is such a happy baby. We are enjoying this sweet little guy so much! He had his first doctors appointment on Friday and is doing great. He had already gained 8 oz. I am feeding him every two hours during the day which is well worth it since he is going four hour stretches for me at night! So far he is a great eater, sleeper, and just so darn lovable!

We decided to go do a little apple picking today! It was the perfect fall morning. Abe and I hung back in the car while Gigi and Adi picked some delicious looking apples quickly! Brandon got me a wonderful gift which will be amazing for our new family of four! I got a Nikon D5100. We have played around with it a little bit last night and this morning.
We also came home to our landscaping in the back yard being done. We have to put in all our shrubs, but the hard part is finished.

It has been a very relaxing Labor Day weekend. It has really just been wonderful to spend time as a family of three before our little boy arrives this week and life gets a little crazy. Adi is such a fun and spunky girl, and I will say she is quite the daddy's girl these days. 38 Weeks

Really .... I'm still pregnant. Hmmmmm, I am so ready and excited to meet this little guy. My body is feeling like it can't take too much more. I am not progressing too much more then last week. I am at a GOOD 3cm and 75% thinned out still. I have a funny feeling I won't have this little guy until I am induced on the 7th of September. He must think it is nice and cozy in there! Either way, I just pray for a healthy little boy! He will come in God's time. Until then I will just hang in there.

DRO's and Frogs

Life hasn't been super exciting around here the last week or so. I am just very ready to have this little man, so we have been staying pretty close to home. It's getting harder and harder to do to much.

Brandon has recently gotten a new Bridgeport Mill and Adi LOVES to go out with daddy to push all the buttons on it. It was about a week ago when he explained the "blue" buttons were actually Digital Read Out buttons. He literally told her once what DRO stood for. After church on Sunday we went out to lunch with our friend Jason and they got to talking about the mill. Brandon asked her what the blue buttons (DRO) stood for and without skipping a beat she looked at him and said Digital Read Out like it was no big deal. We were shocked that she remembered what it stood for. She, without a doubt, has her father's magnificent memory!

We have also had quite a bit of frogs in our back yard lately and Adi loves to hunt for them with Bran. She begs him to get them out of the crawl space opening, but once they're out she does NOT want to touch them. She love watching them hop away.

Exciting times here at the Haight household ha?! Hopefully one of my next few posts will be welcoming our little man!

36 Weeks

I am officially full term and counting down the days until our little man is born! I honestly am feeling very ready to have him. I want to be ready and healthy when he comes out, but I am having all kinds of wonderful pregnancy symptoms here at the end. We had an appointment and an ultra sound today and this is what we know thus far.

- I am 3 centimeters dilated and starting to thin out.
- Dr. L clearly and easily felt the babies head today - she said he is very low.
- He is weighing in at at least 6 lbs 9 oz. Adi was 6 lbs 10 oz when she was born.
- She predicts I will go in the next two weeks. She really does not think I will make it to my scheduled induction date of September 7th.

So, make a post and take a guess as to when this "little" guy will be born and how much he will weigh! These two pictures aren't great - he is very squished in there right now!

Last night my wonderful Bible study friends threw me a "sprinkle". We had a wonderful, peaceful dinner out without kids at Biaggi's, and it was topped off with delicious frozen yogurt from Orange Leaf. I am beyond blessed to have such wonderful Godly women in my life to celebrate this exciting time!!!

Big Girl Bed!

The last two nights Adi has slept in her new big girl bed. She has done great with this transition as well. She is definitely resisting naps some days, so this new bed makes napping a little more challenging. Grandma Haight is making her some pretty sheets for her new bed. We'll have it all made up and pretty in no time. My little baby is getting so big!

I was to afraid of waking her up, so this isn't a great picture.

My sweet little "nakey" thing just waking up. (And yes, she is still taking off her pj's and clothes when she goes to sleep) She is always dressed before bed, and I will continue to dress her. It is going to be a chilly winter if she keeps this up. :)

Street Rod Nationals 2011

We had a great weekend at Street Rod again this year. This was the best the weather has even been in the four years we have been going. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to make it around had the weather been the same as it usually is. It was overcast with a great breeze. We saw tons of beautiful cars and Adi definitely enjoyed herself. I didn't feel like we were able to walk around quite as much this year outside being it that I am almost 9 months pregnant.
We enjoyed checking out cars, eating, and swimming with good friends. It was definitely a successful and enjoyable weekend.

On the way home we stopped at Bass Pro Shop quick. Adi enjoyed checking out the animals for the most part. She is starting to become a little more "afraid" of some things. She tells Bran, "Adi afraid - daddy needs to hold Adi".

34 weeks

As of tomorrow I am 34 weeks - what do you think? Do I look 34 weeks or 40? Everyone around here seems to come up to me and ask if I'm ready to go deliver any day. I guess I look very large this time! I can tell you that I feel huge. I'm happy to know that our sweet little man is growing big and strong!

I was rubbing my tummy this afternoon and I clearly felt his perfect little spine! I got so excited to know how my little man was snuggled in there! We are still unsure of his name, and I am thinking I like the idea of seeing him and then having us name him. It has been a very hot summer, but I am trying to enjoy the remainder of my time with him squirming around in my tummy and with sweet little wild thing, Adison!

Pickle Post

Ok, I'm sure you're all getting sick of seeing my pickle posts, but this is going to be the ultimate pickle post! It seems like no one makes pickles the way our grandparents and great grandparents used to. So I am going to list out all the recipes I have made this season so they are all in one place and I can go back and reference them for years to come. We love pickles here at our house and they honestly don't last that long.

Some quick notes:
I don't "process" any of these pickles, and I usually get them to self seal with the use of a hot jar and hot brine.

When you are planting your cucumbers make sure to plant about 5 - 6 dill plants if you are wanting to can dill pickles throughout the season. I would also recommend not planting them near the cucumbers (they get choked out by those crazy vines).

I always grow my vines up a trellis for easy harvest.

As you pick them keep them in a big pot of water in the fridge to keep them crisp.

After you have filled your jars and sealed them well flip them over to give good contact with the lid to allow them to self seal easier.

Ice or Celery Pickles
Great Grandma Angela Russell-Ahern's recipe (my mom's dad's mother)

Soak 3-4 inch cukes (sliced in quarters lengthwise) in ice water over night
Boil together and cool 1 qt of vinegar, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup canning salt
In the morning pack jars with sliced onions on the bottom cukes, celery, a few more onion slices on the top and then the cool brine and seal

*** I heat my jars with boiling water and fill them with veg and then top them off with HOT brine, seal, and flip over to hopefully self seal.

Dill Pickles
Grandma Mildred Koster's recipe (my dad's mom)

6 cups water (preferably well water)
2 cups vinegar
1/2 cup pickling salt
1/2 tsp alum (personal preference here - she never used alum for my dad b/c he liked them not as crisp) I don't really think the alum crisps them up that much.
Bring the above to a boil
Fill HOT jars with 1 bay leaf, 2 cloves garlic, the blooms of fresh dill, a pinch of red pepper for quart jars. Fill with brine, seal, and flip over

*** I use 4 or 5 cloves of garlic a lot of dill and some kind of hot pepper sliced open to expose the ribs and seeds.

Sweet Cucumber Pickles
Mom Pat Koster's recipe

2 cups sugar
2 cups white vinegar
1/4 cup canning salt
3/4 tsp turmeric
1 tsp mustard seed
3/4 tsp celery seed
Boil first six ingredients only until boiling point is reached
2 medium onions sliced thin
6 cukes
Pour over cukes and onions which have been sliced and put in layers. Store in the fridge - good after one week.

Refrigerator or Ice Cream Bucket Pickles
Aunt Kris's recipe (my dad's sister)

1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup canning salt
1 tsp alum (optional)
1 pint white vinegar
3 pints distilled water (I used well)
Boil above ingredients
1st put dill, onion sliced, 5 hot peppers (I used Serranos this year), 8 cloves of smashed garlic, pack diced rounds of pickles tight, pour liquid into the bucket then leave the lid off for 3 days at room temp, cover, refrigerate, and enjoy.

*** I made them just as the recipe calls for and they were GREAT. I also just made some that I canned and refrigerated that I have not tried yet. I like to try and can and self seal them so you can enjoy them through the winter. I'll make any updates necessary after I try them.

I'm so happy I have all of my family recipes in once place now so we can enjoy them for many more years to come!!!!

Dog days of summer

We have been going outside after dinner for Adi to play around for a little bit. I have been filling up her water table or pool every night, but all she wants to do is pick tomatoes. It is nice having such an enthusiastic little helper in the garden, but she sometimes gets a little to excited and picks a green one or two. She know that she can only pick the red ones, but her excitement gets the best of her some of the time. My garden is doing pretty well this year, but being eight and a half months pregnant takes a little bit of the enjoyment out of it!

Adison Turns 2

Two years old!!! I can't believe our little baby is getting so big so fast. I thought I would jot a couple things down about what she is up to right now and how great of a little two year old she is. This is mainly for us to remember!

She is a huge bundle of energy and is a very active little thing.
She talks, and talks, and talks a lot.
I would definitely call her a little dare devil and risk taker.
She takes a long time to fall asleep at night (and is still in her crib).
She is officially potty trained through the day. I'll be training her soon through the night when the baby arrives and I am up anyway.
It's so funny now that she is getting older she is enjoying being held and she has suckered daddy into rocking her a little bit before bed. I don't know if she is just sensing that there is a change coming soon or what.
She loves her babies, feeding them, and tools.
Overall, she is a very happy and active toddler and we are madly in love with her!!!

Summer Shutdown 2011

It's back to work for Brandon today, but we had a really nice week with him off. We really didn't do much, except for little things around here. It has been pretty darn hot and I am getting bigger and bigger, so that meant indoor activities. We spent time as a family so what could be better then that?!

My cucumbers vines are going CRAZY this year. I'm sure all this rain has helped!!! I made a different variation on my grandma Milly's dill pickles this year, and then I made some refrigerator pickles (kind of like bread and butter) this year. Brandon is a big fan of sweet pickles. I got the recipe from my Aunt Kris. Aunt Kris, is this your recipe or grandma's? I'll post recipes and pictures of my vines from this year later (mainly for my benefit)! Last night we went to a little neighborhood get together here in Haubstadt with a guy Brandon works with. Even though Adi is teething and has been pretty miserable the last couple days we had a pretty good time. She got to swim, eat popsicles, watch a parade, and we even made it to watch the fireworks (aka rainbows). It definitely felt summery and patriotic. I love our little town!

Potty Training!!!

Ok moms, this post is a desperate plea for encouragement. I am being TOTALLY spazzy about this. Adi is clearly ready to be potty training, but I'm not quite sure I'm ready to potty train her. I don't know if it is just that I am being lazy, if I am giving myself too many excuses, or if it might possibly be that it means that my baby isn't a baby any more. I really didn't think I would be like this at all, but here I am.

I kind of tried it the other day and we had a couple accidents (which is to be expected) and I gave up before nap time. When Lindsey and the kids were over here this morning she was all about it. Didn't want me to go in with her, took off her diaper, and even pooped on her own while they were here. She is like, "hello mom it's time."

So, I just need you all to say, get over it - she's ready! Time to potty train!!!

28 Weeks

I am feeling a lot better this week. Ever since I got back from Phoenix I have felt very run down. I think it took be about a week to recuperate from our busy schedule and so much traveling. I have had a rash the last week and half or so (PUPP). It seems to come and go, but aside from that I am feeling pretty good. He is moving around so much now and it makes me feel great to know he is getting big and strong in there.

Dr. L said everything looked great on the ultra sound this week, and she thinks he is just going to be a big boy. He was measuring about 3lbs 3oz when I was in there this week. We got a couple 3D pics but they're not great.

What's going on this week:

During the 28th week of pregnancy, your baby wants to see what's going on in his environment.

Your baby is about 10 inches long — roughly the length of an average zucchini. He weighs about 2 pounds.
His brain develops and expands.
Your baby may open his eyes in utero.
More fat accumulates under his skin.
He continues to take 20- to 30-minute naps with some routine.

The cord was floating around by his face, so they're not the greatest. Regardless I just love seeing pictures of our sweet little boy!!!

Ikea Trip

We took a quick overnight trip to Cincinnati to buy some great storage stuff for Adi's new room. It is hard to resist when you're in that store. We made it back to Louisville last night and stayed down town. We ate a great dinner, swam, took a little walk, and we were all out for the night by 8:30. We'll have a lot of pictures to come of all the rooms. We have a new room for Adi and us too!

I went in to check on her last night and she had stripped down and pee'ed on the sheet. I dressed her and changed the sheets and thought it was a little funny.

Well, not so funny tonight. I put her down and took a quick shower. Not hearing anything on the monitor had me thinking. She is usually in there being Miss Chatty Kathy before she falls asleep. I checked on her and she was naked again. I walked in and told her that was not ok. She needed to stay dressed when she went to sleep. She proceeded by laughing at me. I'm happy it is quite comical to someone. I told her she was not to take off her clothes in my most stern voice, kissed her good night, and listened until she fell asleep. I heard her in there chatting to herself another 10 to 15 minutes, so I thought oh good she is getting settled down.

I just went into to check on her before I headed off to bed myself and this is what I found!

That's right folks - the duck tape WILL make an appearance tomorrow night!!!
We'll call her Houdini if she gets that sucker off tomorrow!

We're HOME!!!!

Well, we are home!!! We made it back last evening. After being in AZ almost a month it was time to come home. It was so nice of my parents to have us for that long. That is a long time with an active toddler and an increasingly large and tired pregnant woman. We had a nice time visiting family and friends. Adi was little under the weather twice while we were there, but that is to be expected when you're dragging a little one all around the US.
We decided to jump right back into being home and busy today. We had a blast at Holiday World today with Lindsey and Olivia. We didn't bring the camera in, so we have two little pictures from the day. The girls had a blast and so did the moms! I tell you what though, I am BEAT. I can hardly walk and my back needs some serious heat therapy (I have the heat pad on it now). This pregnancy has been just exhausting for me! I guess the increased activity is just catching up with me.

I mustard up the energy to run out to my WILD garden just before sun down to grab some goodies for tomorrow's lunch! I'm telling you what this garden has LOVED all the fertilizer I put down this Spring. What I have here didn't even make a dent in how much I have. Anyone need any spinach, swiss chard, or sugar snap peas come on over!

It is nice to be home and to get caught up. I am missing my husband so much. My heart just aches to have my Bran back at home with us! I don't know what it is, but every trip seems to get harder for both of us. I am just counting down the days until he is back. In the mean time I will stay busy and try to catch of couple zzzz's while I still can. :)

We have been hanging out at the house today because Adi is running a low grade fever and we've had a lot of diaper changes. I think it is just a tooth that is taking forever to come all the way up, but you never know. She seems to be acting more like herself today so that is good. I can't have a sick little bug on a four hour flight back home by myself on Monday. The cloudy morning here was perfect for a dip in the pool!

Denver Visit (picture heavy)

We had a nice holiday weekend visiting Aunt Kiki in Denver. The weather was perfect all weekend and we were able to do quite a bit while we were there!

Adi did great on the plane! She is becoming an expert traveler.

We enjoyed dessert at Pinkberry one night! YUM.

We took a free bus the first day we were there. Every time Adi saw a bus she said, "Adi on the bus!" I think she enjoyed her ride.

Aunt Kiki took her swimming in her pool!

We went and did some outdoor shopping one day with Ryan.

A great part of the trip was that we were lucky enough to see my Aunt Kris and cousins Susan and Shane and their incredibly sweet kids!!! Adi was in love with Abby. I've never seen a little girl so sweet and sensitive with a young one as she was!!!

We spent a morning in Boulder. It was beautiful and busy. It was the day before their big run there, so there was tons of activity. It was the perfect day for enjoying the beautiful landscape and amazing weather.

I just love this picture and she was getting such a kick out of going up and down Aunt Kiki's elevator.

The night before we left we went and had sushi out on a patio to enjoy another wonderful evening. Adi, just like her daddy thoroughly enjoyed her sticky rice and miso soup. She had a couple bites of a veggie roll but wasn't overly impressed with the roll. I tell you what though that girl can throw back a serious amount of sticky rice!!

We went to get our nails done this morning and Adi was VERY READY to get pampered as well (she was just going to get a quick paint job). I talked it up and she was acting exciting about doing it. When we got there they said she was too young, so mommy painted them while Gigi was finishing up!

Farm Fresh!

We had a Farm Fresh morning with Grandma and Grandpa. We headed out to the peach festival at Schnepf's Farm. We picked fresh peaches and apricots (Grandpa and Adi had to sample a few while we were picking). Adi even got to ride a pony! I really kind of thought she would freak out when I put her on, but she was all about it! We headed over to Joe's Farm Grill for lunch; and had a delicious burger and fries. We miss you and love you very much daddy! Hope you enjoy the pictures!

WONDERFUL Mother's Day

It was a wonderful mother's day weekend. It was great spending the weekend with family and friends. Here are some pictures of Lindsey, Olivia, Adi, and I at our church's mother's day brunch.

Here's one of me and my sweet little girl! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being her mommy.

The best mother's day gift of all was that I was able to get baptized this weekend. Baptism is about publicly identifying with Christ. It is an act of obedience. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision to align oneself with Christ and what He lived and died for. That inward decision to align myself with Christ was a decision I made as an adult, therefore, my infant baptism wasn't obedient to what God calls us to do. I couldn't be happier today and feel truly alive with Christ's Spirit!

Neighborhood Outing

It is nice that our little neighborhood has so many young moms! Since we didn't have any rain today we all decided to seize the day and go to the zoo. It was a little chilly, but we had a great time with a picnic lunch and all.

Baby Boy - 20 Weeks

Well, the time is flying by. This sweet little boy is already five months, and I am over half way through the pregnancy - YIKES! I am now onto my 4th sinus infection. This little boy is reeking havoc on my sinus cavity. I honestly think I am going to have to deal with a sinus infection until he is born. He has been moving a ton which is GREAT. As soon as I am onto my second bite of something he is moving around, maybe he'll be a good little eater! He has been moving a lot at bed time and right when I get up. My stomach is growing, growing, growing. I am definitely much wider this time. I have heard that you get wider with boys - either way it is definitely true for me. I have been liking to eat a lot of salads and root beer! We are still not 100% on a name, but I think we are pretty sure one one. I'll let you know when we have officially decided on his name.

Easter 2011

We had a very nice Easter this year. It was the first real holiday meal I have made, and we shared it with some good friends of ours. It was a laid back day (more rain... all day long) focused on the sacrifice of Christ our Savior!!!

Dying Easter Eggs

Messy, messy, messy! Adi didn't need a spoon or anything for that matter to drop in the eggs and get them out. She had a ball "chucking" them into the dye and pulling them out when she thought they were ready (30 seconds later). Luckily I had clothes on her that could get messy! Her and daddy had a great time dying them, now we just need to hide them, and hunt them down!

Baby Haight #2 - BOY or GIRL?

We all went to the doctor this morning to check up on little #2! We had our ultra sound right away and it didn't take very long to find out that the baby is definitely a BOY!!! I have to say Bran and I were a little shocked. I think we were both pretty convinced it was another little girl. All of the grandparents thought it was a boy, and they were right! Everything looked great, and they said he is currently in the 98th percentile! This explains why I feel so incredibly big this time around. I think he might be taking after his daddy. Bran was a pretty good size baby when he was born. We are SO EXCITED to be having a little boy. God is GREAT and we truly feel so blessed.

When we were walking into the airport Adi looked at me square in the face and said, "Mommy happy, Adi happy - daddy home"! She is just such a fiery and sweet little thing all at the same time! We're so happy daddy is back at home!

Giraffe Feeding!

We had a great time today at the zoo with Grandma, Lindsey, Ben, and Olivia! The kids got to feed the giraffes, and I'd have to say Ben got the most enjoyment out of it! It is so nice that it is warming up now. I think it might be a bit of a hot summer for mommy though with little Haight #2 getting bigger each day!

16 Weeks Baby #2

Ok, so I'm actually 17 and a half weeks, but here are the stats from his or her 16 week check up. Everything is looking and feeling great. I have felt movement since 14 weeks and I am definitely getting bigger each day. Things have been crazy with Bran gone and Marilyn, Adi, and I running around! We are finding out if this is a little boy or girl a week from Friday (I think I finally have Bran convinced to find out gender :)
I am still thinking it is a GIRL. Chime in and let us know what you think before next Friday. Look for a post next Friday to find out what we're having!!!

We are so excited to announce that baby Haight number 2 is on the way! I am 3 months pregnant and am due on September 12th! Adi has been very sweet about all of it. She is already lifting my shirt and giving my tummy a kiss. I definitely look pregnant. Everyone said that your second just pops out right of way, and boy oh boy were they right! I have been feeling the same as I did with Adi - SICK! I am hoping that the nausea will subside in the next few weeks, but also feel so blessed with the reassurance that he or she is nice and healthy!!

I'm posting this mainly for myself, I don't want to forget how cute our little darling is. She is saying a handful of new words everyday. It is just so much fun. She says the word, and I look at her and say, "I didn't know you knew that word." Then she repeats it over and over again with the cutest little smile. I can tell she is really proud of herself, and it just amazes me how quickly they grow up and change. So, sweet little Cooper has had a plethora of names. Thank goodness for global warming (haha). It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day here yesterday. Lindsey and I took the kids to the zoo and we all had a great time. We brought a picnic lunch and spent the entire morning enjoying the unseasonably warm February weather. Here are some pictures from the day:

Daddy came home with a great Valentine for his girls. Adi was so lucky to get her own little tool box. Before she even took the wrapping paper off she was saying tools - it's pretty funny that she knew what he got her (he hasn't gotten her any of her own tools yet). When Bran goes out into the garage she says to me over and over again, "tools." Needless to say she is a little obsessed with them. Her little plastic tools look very real and she loves playing with them! I got another charm for my bracelet and flowers - THANKS BABE! Happy Valentines Day everyone! xoxo

Bath time exploration

Adi has been thoroughly enjoying her baths lately. It is so much fun to watch her change so much and so quickly. Here lately she has been very fascinated with standing with her feet shoulder width apart in the tub and letting her feel slowly slide out until she plops her cute little bummie into the water. She looks at me with such excitement and says, "SLIDE." Tea parties are always a must in the tub - nothing like a warm cup of "tea." She's also been having a blast blowing the bubbles off of her body and seeing where they land - it's the small things in life isn't it?!

Los Cabo San Lucas

We enjoyed a great week of relaxation with my parents in Cabo. It was so nice of my parents to invite us on a WONDERFUL trip to a nice sunny climate this time of year. We enjoyed swimming, whale watching, massages, and deep sea fishing. More then anything it was so nice spending a week together as a family! Thanks so much again for letting us come with you two!
